Danbury and Little Baddow Open Gardens Open Day - Sunday 12th June
The Danbury and Little Baddow Open Gardens Open Day taking place on Sunday 12th June is a lovely day out. It provides inspiration – whether a specific part of your garden or if you want to redesign your garden completely but don’t know where to start - what better way than having a look at other gardens! Garden owners will be happy to talk about their lawns, lakes etc.
Building on last year’s success, there will be activities on the green at Eves Corner as part of the day with stalls selling local crafts, jams, cakes, family fun and much more. Bakers Funeral Services were so proud to sponsor the event again this year, to offer support to our community and help raise money for Farleigh Hospice.
Christmas Window, created by St Johns School
A group of pupils from Years 1 and 6 at St Johns CofE Primary School recently decorated a window belonging to Bakers Funeral Services Ltd. They filled the window on Eves Corner in Danbury, with as many wrapped boxes as they could fit in! With the intention to run a “Guess how many presents are in the window competition” for the whole school to take part. To allow the pupils who created the window to take part in the competition, without an unfair advantage, Bakers added some extra presents!
Similar to the “Guess how many sweets are in the jar” game, one winner from each class will be chosen at random from the winning entries, to win a small prize donated by Bakers.
Christmas Tree Exhibition at St John the Baptist, Danbury
Bakers Funeral Services took part in St John's Tree Exhibition again this year, to help raise money for the Church.
The event was held over the first weekend in December 2021 and was very popular with local people visiting to view the exhibition. Children were also able to meet Father Christmas and take part in craft activities.
Many visitors to the exhibition hung written messages on our tree, in memory of someone they have loved and lost.Danbury and Little Baddow Open Gardens
After being cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions the Danbury and Little Baddow OPen Gardens was able to go ahead for 2021. Things were a little different to allow the event to keep its attendees safe and able to socially distance, but was a great success. One thing which was new this year was inviting local businesses to hold a stall in open air on Eves Corner, central to the event. This was so popular it looks like it may remain a permanent feature of the event.
Bakers Funeral Services were so proud to sponsor the event again this year, to offer support to our community and help raise money for Farleigh Hospice.Loved by Danbury
This December staff at Bakers Funeral Services Ltd and it's sister company Bakers of Danbury Ltd collected donations for the Loved by Danbury Christmas Gift Appeal. The Danbury Community Volunteer Group, which was originally set up to help the vulnerable during the first national lockdown by collecting essential shopping, prescriptions and offer friendship to the self-isolating, had identified a number of families and individuals within the local community who were particularly struggling as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Together with other initiatives set up by the Volunteer Group, they formed the Loved by Danbury Christmas Gift Appeal, which was led by their volunteer member Stephanie Smith, to provide gifts and hampers to the most vulnerable in the local community.
Bakers of Danbury donated a car boot full to the brim with new toys and gifts suitable for all ages, from children to the elderly. As we knew the volunteer group were also making hampers we donated luxury items, as well as every day essentials from tea bags to toothbrushes to go in the hampers.
We would like to thank all of our staff for donating with so much generosity, and also thank Stephanie Smith and the rest of the volunteers who dedicate so much of their time to help and support the vulnerable within our local community, not just at Christmas but throughout the whole pandemic.
